| I
like
to work with a range of subjects and styles, not wanting
to become too set on one particular approach or subject.
I
like to paint portraits, landscapes and abstract pieces
and am exploring abstraction within figurative work.
There
is, however, a common thread. I have a particular interest
in applying classical renaissance compositional devices
to abstract painting. |

For
me, painting is a very physical thing. I
move around the painting, working quickly with big movements,
using a range of artists' and builders' tools as well
as my hands and fingers.
This
means that as my work develops it become increasingly
expressive.
My
figurative work is usually painted from life, either on
location or in the studio from my location sketches.

This
gives me a greater feel for the subject than working from
photographs and allows me the freedom to explore.
Having recently
moved into a new house on the canal by the locks at
Barrowford this will obviously be a source of inspiration
for future work.
Look out
for me painting on the towpath or in my garden and say
hello!
